Get Your Crazy Hats Ready!

This Wednesday 25 May, we will be joining schools from across the country for National Simultaneous Storytime, by sharing I Got This Hat written by Jol and Kate Temple and illustrated by Jon Foye.

The story takes the reader on a trip around the world, through the medium of hats. To celebrate, we'd love students to wear a crazy or interesting hat to school.   For more information on National Simultaneous Storytime or this year's book, please click here.
Congratulations, Palu!

KidsMatter
Our school has begun an important journey towards improving the mental health and wellbeing of our students, through the KidsMatter school-wide framework. To do this, we need the help of the entire school community. An important aspect of implementing KidsMatter is the consultation process with parents and carers. We are asking parents and caregivers to complete a short survey about your perceptions of the school in the area of mental health and wellbeing. We hope to receive your honest views and opinions, so all responses are anonymous. To access the survey, please click here. You will need to select our school name from the drop-down menu and '2016 Q2 : Apr-Jun', when asked for the reporting period. We greatly appreciate your time and assistance in this matter. Paper copies of the survey are being sent home with students this week as well.
School Athletics Carnival
Join us on Monday 6 June at Croome Rd, Albion Park Rail

On your marks, get set....GO! Preparations for the athletics carnival are in full swing at Lake Heights with students practising their running, jumping and throwing skills each Friday during sport time and often during their regular PE lessons as well.

This year, our annual K-6 athletics carnival will be held at John O'Dwyer Oval, Croome Rd, Albion Park Rail, on Monday 6 June. Students will be travelling by bus to the venue and events are expected to get underway at 9:45. Students may wear their house colours or their Lake Heights uniform,  but must wear appropriate shoes. The cost to attend the carnival is $8 per child or $15 per family, which goes towards the cost of transport, venue and equipment hire on the day. Download an athletics carnival permission slip A canteen will be in operation, however, students are encouraged to bring their own lunch as supply may be limited. The athletics carnival is always a fantastic day and we hope that you can join us to support our budding athletes!
Publicly Speaking
Each year, Lake Heights students in Years 3-6 participate in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition. This competition provides students with an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills, heighten their awareness of multicultural issues and improve their confidence. It is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate the speaking skills they've been working on in class. To prepare for the speeches, students in 2/3, 4/5 and 5/6 have been have been writing and presenting speaking tasks on a range of topics. In the coming weeks, they'll be reading texts and having discussions about multiculturalism, in preparation to write their own speeches, which will be performed in front of the class. An inter-school final will be held during week 8, to select the students who will be representing Lake Heights at our district final in Week 9 at Dapto Public School. Parents are welcome to join us for this event. Additional information is available here and will be sent home in the coming weeks.
