Term 3 | Week 4

Weekly News
Changing Rooms

There's no doubt about it, our classrooms are looking better and brighter than ever! This year, we've made huge improvements to our learning spaces, including new interactive whiteboards, floor to ceiling wall coverings, new furniture for collaborative work spaces, and we've just completed our biggest change yet.

Over the holidays, our Year 2 room underwent huge renovations, removing the wall between what was previously the canteen, to create a large wet area with sink, a bathroom and a new storeroom. The extension has transformed the learning space and is a hit amongst students and teachers alike!

The room is set to become the new home base for Kindergarten and the two classes will trade places from the beginning of Term 4, to prepare for the orientation of new kindergarten students at the end of the year. We are sure they'll love it just as much as we do!

International Food Fair

Our Mini-Olympics, Food Fair and Open Day extravaganza is just over a week away now!

Last week, a note was sent home with students, asking for contributions towards our International Food Fair, which will be held on Thursday 18 August, along with our Mini-Olympics and Open Day. The Food Fair has been an enormous success in the past and we're relying on your support to make it another fantastic day by contributing $2 per student towards the cost of utensils and servingware and providing a plate of food to share on the day. If you missed the note, click here for another copy.

With our Mini-Olympics event just under two weeks away now, preparations are in full swing. Each class has chosen a nation to represent for the day and students have been hard at work researching their countries, creating artworks and learning about the culture of their chosen countries.  Students are encouraged to dress in the colours of their class country. Some classes are also making items to be worn on the day. Classroom teachers will provide more information where required. The represented countries are as follows:
Our Olympic events on the day will include Ring Toss, Noodle Throw, Long jump, Hurdles, Balloon Tennis, and Hammer Throw. Don't miss our Olympic Torch Relay and Parade of Nations, starting at 11am on the oval. Medal presentations will follow later in the day. Bring along a picnic blanket or fold up chairs for what is sure to be another spectacular Lake Heights event!
Term 3 Assemblies

School Assemblies are an important tradition at Lake Heights and are a great way to show interest in your child's learning and be a part of the school community. Assemblies include award presentations, announcements, as well as class items. Each class presents an item twice throughout the year.

School assemblies are held three times per term. Dates for this term’s assemblies are:

Monday 15 August -  Year 2 item

Monday 29 August - Year 2-3 item

Monday 12 September - Year K-1 item

We love seeing friends and family at our assemblies but realise that other commitments can sometimes make it difficult for parents to make it in person. We use Facebook to give you the opportunity to watch class items and special events, even if you can't make it in person. Log on to our Facebook page to see parts of our assembly streamed live, and share with friends and relatives later. Check out our past videos to get a glimpse of what to expect.
