Weekly News

District Cross Country
Well done to all students who participated in the District Cross Country last week. What a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their long distance running skills against other schools. All students should be very proud of their achievements. Congratulations to Keeghan Riddell, Mateja Miovic, Deeghan Jones and Phoenix Duncan who have made it to Regional Cross Country in Nowra. A big thanks to Mrs Upeski for organising the event and Mrs Nicastri for helping out.
Mother's Day Stall

As Mother's Day is this Sunday, Lake Heights Public School will be holding their annual Mother's Day Stall this Friday.

The P&C will set up a stall, with gifts available for students to purchase, ranging in cost between $1-$8. Any students that wish to purchase a Mother's Day gift from the stall will need to bring their money with them on Friday. Please be aware that there will be no credit available and students may only purchase one gift. If there are any additional gifts left over, these will be made available for purchase at recess. Thanks to our wonderful P&C for organising this stall.
Year 4 High School Gala Day
Year 4 had an excellent time on Wednesday at the WHS Sports Gala Day and got to meet lots of other Year 4 students from different schools in our area. Thanks to Warrawong High School for such a fun day.

Smiles Onsite

The free Dental program, Smiles Onsite, arrived at school this morning and were greeted by lots of excited students. Their mobile clinic is parked beside the school office.

The friendly dentists are providing one-on-one education about proper oral hygiene and children who returned their permission forms are receiving a scale and clean. We hope to see your child/children at the clinic this week!
National Simultaneous Storytime 2017
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Lake Heights Public School is excited to take part in this fun and vibrant event. This year we ask that all children bring in their favourite soft toy on Wednesday 24 May to help them celebrate the Simultaneous Storytime in comfort.
NAPLAN- this week

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

The tests provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education programs are working and which areas need to be prioritised for improvement.
