Education Week, District Athletics results, Rides and Fun day announced: Term 3 | Week 3

Weekly News

The theme for Education Week in 2017 is 'I learn, we learn'. It celebrates personalised student learning as the foundation of public education in NSW. At Lake Heights we'll be showcasing the products of our students' learning in classrooms and at Warrawong Plaza.

Over 50 students will take to the stage at Warrawong Plaza on Tuesday 1 August. The K-2 dance group and primary choir will both perform for shoppers from 11:30.

It's a 10 minute performance so make sure you're early. Other schools are scheduled just after our students who are headlining the show.

Classrooms and learning spaces will then be open from 12:15 on Wednesday 2 August as part of our Education Week celebrations. Please drop by and see what's happening first hand.

Families are welcome to stay for a BYO picnic lunch as well from 1:00PM.

District Athletics Success

Congratulations to all of the students that represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival on Friday.

It was one of our most successful years with 9 students qualifying to represent our school at the Regional events. The day ran smoothly with all students behaving well and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. A special thanks to the parents who assisted with private transport for this event. It was much appreciated.

2018 Kindergarten Transition to School
This year, Lake Heights Public School is excited to announce a new Transition to School program. Starting in week 2 of Term 4, a playgroup will be held over four weeks for incoming Kindergarten students and their parents. The playgroup will be an exciting and informal way for students and parents to interact with the school and meet their future teachers. Research indicates that playgroups are a fantastic way of stimulating children's development through quality early childhood experiences, increasing parental knowledge in relation to child development and facilitating social networks. Following the initial playgroups, two formal orientation sessions will take place for students. While the first orientation session is running for students, a parent information session will take place in the Learning Hub. Do you know anyone looking to enrol in 2018? Now is the time to enrol. We can't wait to meet our new families.
Australian Mathematics Competition
Last week, 20 students from year's 3 to 6 sat the Australian Mathematics Competition. Congratulations to these students. We hope you achieve your best possible results. Certificates will be awarded at a special assembly in the near future.

Plans are well underway for our Rides and Fun Day on Wednesday 20 September this term.

The Zoomer, Jurassic Park Castle, a large inflatable slide, The Tea Cups and Mini Golf are all booked for the afternoon which starts at 12PM and finishes at 4:00.

$25 pre-ordered wristbands give 4 hours of unlimited rides ($30 on the day) Pre-orders are available from today using the order forms sent home with students and available from the Hub or download.

Showbags at various prices can also be ordered from today. Orders close on Friday 1 September so be quick! Order forms can be downloaded here or obtained from the Hub.

Can you spare an hour to help? We're looking for volunteers to join the team and share the load so that organisers can share some time with their children as well. Can you lend a hand on the BBQ, cake stall or games stalls? Just an hour.

Please reply to one of our Facebook posts or leave your name at the office. Your help will be much appreciated.
