Get those calendars ready because fourth term is always a big one. Here's a few dates for the diary.
LHPS Grandparent's Day
25 October from 9:30am
Full of love, adoration, stories and special treats, they say that grandparents are the best kind of grown ups and at Lake Heights, we appreciate the significant role that grandparents play in the daily lives of our students.
Grandparents are invited to join us on Thursday 25 October at 9:30am to experience a classroom with their grandchild and enjoy some morning tea. You might even like to stay on for a BYO picnic lunch with the children at 11am. Join in some of the fun and learning that children experience at LHPS.
To assist with catering for morning tea, please let us know if you’re able to attend by completing the RSVP that children will have taken home. If you'll be staying for lunch with the children, there are plenty of nice places to sit and enjoy lunch from home or the shop.
Spare RSVP slips are available at The Hub.
We hope you can join us!
Bookings open from 29 October
It's on again! Bookings for The Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program open on 29 October. Swim School is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The program is conducted over ten days from Monday 3 December to Friday 14 December. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.
The scheme is great value and always fills up fast. Notes will be sent home on 29 October.
School Run4Fun Colour Explosion
There’s sure to be lots of fun on Thursday 15 November!
Run4Fun Colour Explosion starts with an early sausage sizzle lunch at 12:00pm.
At 1:00pm, after lunch has settled, our colour crazy run begins.
Wear a white or mostly white t-shirt and finish the run looking COLOURIFIC.
Colour will be applied by smiling faces around the course. The more laps that students run, the more colourful they’ll become.
The coloured powder we’ll be using is made from corn-starch and natural food dyes. It will wash out of clothes, however we suggest that students leave their designer gear at home! Only wear what’s ok to get colourful.
Run4Fun Colour Explosion is a major fundraising event. The more money we raise, the more we can provide for students.
Sponsorship forms were sent home last term and extras are available from The Hub. Due back by 15 November.

Our NEW 2019 school hats have also started to arrive. The first hat will be free on day 1 of 2019 with a choice of reversible blue/yellow bucket style hat or blue/yellow trim cap. They’ll be displayed in the office soon.
Please be on the look out for all-black shoes (preferred) or white or black/white to start the 2019 school year with and let us know via Facebook or Dojo if you find a good buy.
Calling all green thumbs!
Our P&C is forming a community garden group, aimed at supporting the existing school garden program. If you've got an interest in gardening, sustainable living or would just like to see the garden become a prominent part of the Lake Heights community, we'd love to hear from you.
Come along to our first meeting this Wednesday 17 October from 9:30. We'll be meeting in the Learning Hub to share our vision and discuss future plans and possibilities, to ensure that a viable and sustainable garden program becomes a permanent feature of Lake Heights Public School.
We hope to see you there!
Year 6 Orientation Day

Around the school
It's the first day back and with the end of the year drawing closer, it is easy to forget how far students have travelled this year and what they've accomplished. We decided to refocus students and get them ready for the term ahead by asking students what they CAN do, that they couldn't do at the start of the year.
We have three assemblies in the lead up to our more formal Presentation Day assembly at the end of the year. They're scheduled for :
Friday 2 November - presented by Year 1/2
Friday 16 November - presented by Year 1
Friday 30 November - presented by Kindergarten
Assemblies start from 2pm. We hope to see you there!
It's only a few short weeks until we will be welcoming our 2019 Kindergarten students into the school for transition-to-school playgroups and orientation days. If you, or someone you know is yet to enrol a child to start school in 2019, please pop into the office to pick up an enrolment form.
The playgroups offer a chance for children to become familiar with their classmates, Year 5 buddies and teachers before they enter school next year, in a relaxed and informal setting. It also offers an opportunity for parents to meet and become a part of our school community. Last year, we had 99% of prospective students attend the playgroups and parents reported that this was extremely beneficial to their child.
To register your interest in the playgroups, please see our Facebook event.
