From today, every student at Lake Heights Public School is now the proud owner of one of our school hats. A hat was provided to every student in the school, free of charge, as a part of our efforts to ensure a more consistent approach to school uniform.
The new school hat is a compulsory part of our uniform and the expectation is that all students will wear a school hat during outdoor activities both at school, or away from school on excursions. Students will no longer be permitted to wear other styles of hat at school. Additional hats are available for purchase from the office at a cost of $5 for caps or $10 for bucket hats.
We hope you love our hats as much as we do!
2019 School Leaders
Nominations open tomorrow
During Term 4 each year, students from Year 5 are invited to take part in nominations for school leader positions. Students and staff have the chance to vote for students they'd like to represent our school. There are 2 Captain and 2 Vice Captain positions which can be filled by any combination of boy/girl numbers.
LHPS School Leaders need to have demonstrated that they can uphold our school values of care, respect and safety. They must be a good role model to other students and be a proud member of our school community. If your child has a good attendance record and can speak clearly with some confidence, we suggest you have a chat with your child about nominating.
Nomination forms will be available from Year 5 teachers from 20 November and will also be made available at The Hub and by download.
When the parent permission slip is returned with all three signatures, students are instantly nominated. Nominations close on Friday 24 November.
Students will prepare and deliver a speech to the school on Friday 7 December at a 9.30am assembly and the results will be published in the following week's newsletter.
The community garden group’s growing band of enthusiastic green thumbs worked tirelessly all Friday to reinvigorate the school vege garden. Over a tonne of fresh garden mix and new crushed stone were wheelbarrowed into place by the team in readiness for planting a variety of fresh seedlings, kindly donated by Bunnings Warrawong.
Our kindergarten students will be taking to the garden this afternoon to get our new plants all settled in. They'll be planting a variety of vegetables and herbs including basil, coriander, parsley, spinach, beetroot and tomatoes.
This project has well and truly proven what a small group of determined and passionate individuals can achieve. Whilst those pictured have led the charge, several other like-minded parents dropped in throughout the day to lend a hand. A huge thanks to all of those involved for their hard work and dedication. We can't wait to see our little garden beautiful and green once again.
It's the week for excursions!
There are two big excursions happening this week. 4/5 and 5/6 will be using communication, teamwork and problem solving skills to make their way around various obstacles and outdoor problems at the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre in Ryde today. They departed at 7am this morning and are due back at 4:30pm this afternoon.
On Thursday, Yr 3/4 are heading to the Sydney Aquarium for a guided educational tour. Students will travel by bus departing the school at 8:00am and returning at approximately 4:00pm.
As always, teachers will be contactable via Dojo and updates to travel times etc will be posted to Facebook and Dojo. We hope our 3-6 students have a great time.
We're sure there's no way you could have missed last Thursday's Run4Fun Colour Explosion fun run. The mood was electric as a sea of blindingly white shirts became an explosion of colours. Parents, siblings and teachers all joined in the fun, which of course, was all for a good cause - raising money for our P&C.
Sponsorship forms were due last Friday and have now been sent away to the event organisers. We'll let you know once we have received the prizes.
Again, a huge thanks goes out to the parent volunteers who once again, organised a fantastic event, as well as all of those parents, grandparents, friends and relatives who sponsored a student.
If you haven't already seen, teachers captured some great shots of the day, which are available on our school Facebook page.
Here's a few video highlights of the day. Enjoy!
New Warrawong High uniform and logo
Warrawong High School have made some changes to their uniform and logo which may affect students attending Warrawong High School for Year 7 next year, or those families with older siblings enrolled at WHS. The new uniform is compulsory for all Year 7 students from 2019 onwards.
Changes to these uniforms have been in the works for quite a few years now, with an extensive consultation process occurring over this time. The result is a uniform that WHS believes offers quality, value, practicality and inclusivity.
The school has chosen to subsidise the cost of uniforms during 2019 at their own expense.
The new uniform and price list is available here.
An update from the P&C
We're on the look out for raffle prizes for the P&C's annual raffle. Each classroom has a basket to house donations of non-perishable food donations within their expiry date, as well as brand new, packaged toys and giftware. We appreciate any donations you're able make.
Next Tuesday, 27 November, the P&C will be holding a Cake Stall and Sausage Sizzle. Cakes and sausages will start at $1. If you're able to make a donation of cakes, slices or other sweet treats, we'd greatly appreciate any contribution. Please bring cakes to the kitchen on Tuesday morning.
Around the school
This week's guest videographers are Jayda and Mouradi. They were out and about all week on the hunt for what's happening around our school. Have a look at what they managed to capture. Another brilliant effort from our senior students.
