A well deserved congratulations

Our new school leaders were inducted at last week's Presentation Day Ceremony

Last week we celebrated excellence in many forms - academic and sporting performance, outstanding citizenship qualities, budding leaders and those who have made significant improvements in their learning.  We also watched as four Year 5 students, pledged to lead our school with respect and diligence in the year to come, and recognised one of our  staff for their outstanding service and achievements in education. We'd like to offer another congratulations to all of these recipients, who have demonstrated that Lake Heights really does 'Strive for excellence'.

As the year draws to a close, however, it's important to remember that the students who received an award in last week's ceremony are not the only students who have achieved excellence or have made progress over the year. Excellence comes in many forms - whether it is a talent for music or public speaking, empathy or problem solving - and with persistence and dedication, there are so many possibilities ahead of each and every student. We'd like to congratulate every student at Lake Heights for a great year of learning and encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in all that they do.

Hit the ground running in 2019

For some students, 2019 will be a big year. It might be starting a new school, entering Kindergarten for the first time or moving on to a new teacher. For  those families brand new to school in 2019, this helpful guide will provide you with the basics of preparing for school. For those who are established at our school, the summer holidays are an important time for students to take a well earned break from school. There are a number of things that you can incorporate  into your everyday routines so that students maintain the important skills that they've developed over the year. Sharing stories, involving your child in writing the grocery list and creating a budget for holiday activities are all quick, tasks that can benefit your child. If you're looking for some additional resources to access over the holidays, the Department of Education has suggested these websites.
  • ABC Education – More than 4000 free educational games, videos and teaching resources for schools and students, and is a great website for learning support and development for parents, teachers and students.
  • Learning Potential – Website resource and mobile app produced and maintained by the Australian government and is freely available. Learning potential has hundreds of articles on all aspects of child’s learning and development, from the early years to the end of high school.
  • Kids Health – A comprehensive resource for quality, approved health information and advice.
  • ReachOut – Encourage students to access ReachOut, an online youth mental health and wellbeing service. ReachOut helps young Australians with information, support, and tools.
  • ReachOut Parents – Information, tools and resources to help parents and carers support their teenagers in their family environment.
  • The Raising Children Network – Funded by the Federal Government and run by The Parenting Research Centre and Murdoch Children’s Research Centre and includes some excellent transition to school advice.
Time for some new kicks?

Little feet have a habit of growing over the summer, so if you're in the market for some new school shoes,  please buy black…

The preferred school shoe colour at Lake Heights is black. Black runners, black leather, black canvas are all okay (with as little other colour as possible).

This is in line with our current uniform policy and feedback from our community asking for our uniform to be more uniform.

Year 6 Guard of Honour

We hope that all of our school community have a relaxing, safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to seeing students in Years 1 to 6  on Wednesday 30 January, ready start the new school year.

In keeping with one of our very special Lake Heights traditions, Year 6 will be bid farewell as they exit the school for the very last time through a “guard of honour” at the top gate. Join us 10 minutes before bell time at the top gate as the whole school community form a row on each side of the pathway and clap the students as they leave.

Bring your cameras and some tissues!

School Picnic - tomorrow at 9

Tomorrow will be a fun packed day for all students at LHPS. As Year 6 head off on their annual trip to Jamberoo Action Park, students in Years 1-5 will be treated to a school picnic. We'll be travelling by bus to Windang Foreshore, leaving at 9am sharp. Please do not be late! Students will need to bring their bag with water, lunch, recess, a hat and sunscreen. We look forward to a fun day celebrating a wonderful year of learning.
