Sports Hub open for business, Cake stall thanks, NAPLAN online this year: Term 1 | Week 9

Weekly News

Open for business

Our new fitness hub will swing into action this week following the work of a small band of helpers on the weekend. All our sports equipment has been cleaned up and looks as good as new in its new home at the top entry to the school. Its former home is now the perfect location and facility for the garden group’s equipment, message board and sign-on bench.

Thank you to our helpers (pictured below) and Mr Fin who lent a hand on Saturday.

Thank you

What a fantastic array of cakes and slices that were donated on Thursday for our Harmony Day celebrations. Thank you for all the generous donations and a big thank you to our team of helpers who set up the stall and sold the wonderful collection of colourful and cultural delights - Afghan cakes, Australian pavlova, lamingtons, traditional Spanish, Italian and Islander cakes, as well as, amazingly decorated orange cupcakes.

NAPLAN online this year

Preparations are underway for over 1,200 department schools to sit NAPLAN Online this year. Lake Heights will be one of these schools. This Wednesday, students in Years 3 and 5 will take part in online NAPLAN trials using their laptops. It’s part of a range of readiness activities that the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) has provided to schools in preparation for the actual test period 14-24 May.

The week that was

All the learning and fun at Lake Heights Public School can be seen in another weekly video as well as everything that happened on Harmony Day on Thursday. That's right. Two videos again this week. Click the photos to follow the link to our weekly video. Don't forget to check out the many videos available on our website.

Cross country next week

This year’s cross country will be held at school next Thursday 4 April 2019. Join us on the basketball court from 9:30 where the school and house flags will be flying. Students turning 8 this year will compete in distance events around the school: 2km for 8 to 10-year-olds and 3km for 11-13-year-olds. The adventure playground will provide the perfect venue for the under 8’s obstacle course and run which will get underway shortly after the first distance events. All students can wear their sporting house colours in support of their team. A t-shirt, armband, headband, face paint, or coloured hair are all okay. More information is available on our school website.

Netball, soccer, t-ball

After the postponement of both events last week, we're happy to say that both will be held this Friday 29 March (weather permitting). All are welcome to attend and watch.

Merit Awards

5/6 out of uniform

As a part of the class dojo program, 5/6 has achieved 1500 class dojo points. 5/6 has a system where they can buy privileges with their own class dojo points. Eg. Free time, extended play and having chips for lunch with friends. The children of 5/6 decided to collect their dojos together and save up to achieve a mufti day. Since the class has reached 1500 points, 5/6 automatically is given to chance to choose a day to wear mufti. This will be held on Tuesday, 26 March 2019. - Isadora & Thuraya.
