Reconciliation Week

This week is National Reconciliation Week, from 27 May to 03 June. Relationships between Aboriginal and non-indigenous peoples will be strengthened this week when students learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Next week’s video will highlight some of the learning that will take place.

Drop and go, play and stay

At Lake Heights Public School, we are teaching students the importance of always being in the right place, at the right time. The focus this week is arrival to school in the mornings. Upon arrival to school before 8:30 am students are to be seated outside year 1/2 and year 2 classes. When the teacher arrives for the 8:30 am morning duty, the rule is “Drop and Go”. All students need to drop their bag off at their class area, then go straight to the top playground, where the teacher on duty can see them. Once they are on the top playground, students should stay in view of the teacher on duty and not return to the bag area. “Play and stay” on the top playground is the rule once they arrive there.

Gala day

Just a reminder, Years 3-6 have their first Gala day for term 2 this Friday 31 May. Girls are playing soccer and boys are playing dragon tag. Students will travel by private transport from school to Noel Mulligan Oval, Warrawong departing school at 9:15 am and returning at 2:00 pm.

Boot garden

Wait! Don’t throw out those boots! As part of our learning about gardening and sustainability, we are creating a boot garden. We need old boots and shoes brought to school. Drop the boots off to your child's class and when we have enough for the whole class to have one shoe/boot each, we can then work in pairs to fill and pot plants in the boots, water them and put on show in our special area.

Pie drive

Don't forget that the Pie Drive fund-raiser orders close next Monday 3 June and delivery is two weeks later on Wednesday 19 June. Our order form is for up to three orders. Please use multiple forms if you are collecting orders for family and friends. Pies are provided by Queen Street Bakery in Warilla.

Safety online

This week students from years 3 to 6 will attend talks about online safety. These sessions combine cyber safety with information security and risk management skills. Engaging, entertaining and practical, as well as, providing non-biased, fact-based practical strategies that they can use in everyday life.
