Thank you
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers, students and parents of Lake Heights for their support while I have been Relieving Principal for the last term and a half. Your support has made my job very easy and I can confidently say that Mr Kieren Corbyn, Lake Heights Public School's new Principal, is very lucky to be the Principal at such a fantastic school. Mr Corbyn will be starting in the Principal role at the beginning of next year and he is looking forward to it. I would like to wish all our families a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a safe and relaxing holiday. I look forward to seeing you all back at Lake Heights in 2020. Jenny Whyte Relieving Principal

Make time to read each day this summer

Thank you to Mr Paul Scully who presented a book to each student in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, last week. Reading is like nearly everything else in life - the more you do it the better you get. It is important to encourage children to read during the summer break. Just a half-hour each day with a book should keep students’ reading skills on track for the next school year.

A new arrival
We have a new equipment storage shed in the form of a 1960’s Franklin caravan. Situated in the lower playground, the caravan is a parting gift from Mr Heddles. To rejuvenate the caravan and adapt it as a storage shed, Mr Heddles renovated, replaced and repaired every surface and fixture, over a three month period. Thank you Mr Heddles for your creative and functional gift. We love it.

A merger is happening
For many years there have been inequalities in the make up of South Coast PSSA districts. There have been no changes made to districts since 1971. After much debate, the current 16 districts will become 13 in 2020. South Wollongong will be merging with Dapto PSSA, retaining the name South Wollongong PSSA. We will expand from our 7 schools to 14 to include: Warrawong, Kemblawarra, Port Kembla, Cringila, Berkeley, Berkeley West, Lake Heights, Unanderra, Hayes Park, Koonawarra, Lakelands, Farmborough Road, Dapto and Mt Brown.   From 2020 there will be some changes, such as: district uniforms and logo will be updated, zone trials will become more formalised and our district carnivals will become larger events. Our gala days will remain the same in 2020. The opportunities for our students to represent their school at sporting events will still continue. We will provide more information in early 2020.

Share Our Space these holidays

Just a reminder that you are all welcome to use our school grounds when Share Our Space begins on Monday 23 December 2019. Our grounds open between 8am and 5pm each day, including all public holidays. Last day for Share Our Space is Friday 24 January 2020.
100% attendance Semester 2
Congratulations to all 13 students who achieved 100% attendance this semester. Education for all students is important and regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. When children attend school every day, learning becomes easier and they will build and maintain friendships with other children.
