COVID -19 Corona Virus Update
I am sure our entire community is across the unfolding World situation with Corona Virus. As Principal, I am working very closely with government authorities to ensure we are implementing best practice in our school. We will endeavour to function as normally as possible, but there are some variations to our regular routines. Most importantly, I would like you to observe some key changes for our school this week:
  • Parent/Teacher conversations have been postponed
  • This week’s assembly by 4/5 will be rescheduled
  • Tuesday’s PandC meeting will be rescheduled
  • Raffle tickets will still come home for our Easter fundraiser, but the Easter Hat event itself will be considered closer to the date
Second to this information, please ensure you keep your children home if you, or they are unwell. Please remember to practise good hygiene: regular 20 second handwashes, and coughing/sneezing into your elbow are key measures. Also consider hand sanitiser and more regular normal cleaning at home. Please report close contact you have had with any confirmed cases of COVID-19 so that we can enact government advice. Each week I will keep you updated on any school related information as this situation continues to unfold through our newsletter. Please also monitor our FaceBook, Dojo, Sign and website closely, as daily information will be shared as required. I thank you for your support during this time. I can assure you that your children will be cared for in the most professional fashion.

‘Small acts, when multiplied by many people, can transform the World’ – Howard Zinn After being here for 7 weeks, I am really starting to feel settled at Lake Heights Public School as Principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting members of our community through drop offs and pickups, during assemblies, through community events such as last week’s Cross Country, and during the more formal proceedings of the PandC. Our school has a lovely community feel, and I endeavour to help it remain this way. If you haven’t had a chance to say hello yet, please do. It has also been a welcome pleasure to experience the commitment and incredible skill base of our staff. Last but most certainly not least, meeting your children has been the standout. I am in the fortunate position where many students each week bring work and ideas to share with me. It’s an opportunity I always feel privileged to have and I love chatting with them before sharing their successes with families where I can. I have enjoyed visiting classrooms, and appreciated the offer from Mrs Ellsmore to spend some time learning through play with our Kindergarten students last week. It was also great to see so many of our students thriving in the Cross Country on Thursday supported by caring staff and an invested community. From here forwards, I will aim to address our community each week through the newsletter and look forward to sharing continued successes. Thank you all for the warm welcome. Kind regards, Kieren Corbyn Principal.

Sports update

Last week was a big sporting week at Lake Heights Public School with many of our students participating in multiple sporting events during the week. We began the week with our AFL program with all students from K-6 participating in hour-long sessions based around the skills associated with AFL. On Thursday, our school had its annual cross country carnival with students from K-6 running a lap and laps around the school. Well done to all students who participated and ribbons will be handed out by Mr Corybn in class this week. On Friday, our 3-6 primary students participated in PSSA cricket and netball at Fred Finch Park against other schools in our Community of Schools. Our students showed great sportsmanship, skill and attitude throughout the games played. A special mention to Steph (Charlotte Gray, Ella and Lucy Vinken's mum) who umpired multiple games of netball and assisted in organising the junior teams on the day, without her assistance it would have been difficult for all our teams to participate. Thank you, Steph.

We would also like to congratulate Isadora Novakovic who has been selected in the South Coast Soccer team. Isadora has been through two sets of trials to be selected into this team. Well done, Isadora.

Everyone belongs
This Friday 20 March, we will be celebrating Harmony Day. Each class has its own colour that can be worn on the day. Classes will be learning about what Harmony Day means and why everyone belongs. We look forward to a very colourful day.
