‘Sometimes the best solution is to rest, relax, and recharge. It’s hard to be your best on empty’ Sam Glenn School Holidays Despite the classroom looking very different for the vast majority of our students (and families) over the last few weeks, the school holidays do start at the end of this week on Good Friday (April 10). It has been a tumultuous start to the year with fires, wild weather and now a global pandemic. With many work opportunities being provided for students online in this remote learning at home format it would be easy to stay connected online, but please take time over the two week holiday period to rest with your families, and encourage your children to do the same. I have instructed our staff to also take time to recharge, and I have asked that they are not engaging with school based communication platforms over the holiday period. Our office and online communication platforms will be reopened Monday April 27 to field any enquiries. Term Two The department has not given schools a clear directive just yet around how operations will look in Term 2, but as soon as this information is released, I will ensure it is communicated with families. Our Staff Development Day is Monday April 27, which is traditionally student free, and there will be no staff supervision on the school site for students. This means learning resumes for students on Tuesday April 28. Please stay connected with our school Facebook and local media for official information releases regarding Term Two school operations. Easter Raffle We will be drawing our Easter raffle on Wednesday April 8. Our PandC president will draw a lucky winner and we will communicate the outcome via social media. Good luck to all who have purchased tickets. I want to thank our PandC for their wonderful support throughout a challenging Term One. Week 11 Learning This week we revised all school learning at home packs and brought them closer to a consistent approach across the years K-6. In each pack you will find a day by day break down of desired tasks for our students to complete, and one key item a day for upload, or to be returned with the completed pack. All learning packs cater for those learning online and offline, but we encourage all families where possible to connect with their child’s teachers through Dojo. Each day staff greet students online and offer instructions and videos to complement the written ones. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to read to our K-2 students on Friday. Thank you for your support in my first term of school leadership at Lake Heights Public School; it has been most rewarding albeit amidst challenging circumstances. Have a great week and a nice Easter break. Kieren Corbyn, Principal.
