‘Every success story is a tale of constant adaption, revision and change’ -    Richard Branson Finishing strong  With the June Long Weekend behind us, schools typically start preparing to finalise and distribute Semester One Reports. For all of its challenges, 2020 is flying along. I selected this week’s quote because when I think about all that has happened at our school this year, it really has been a story of constant adaption, revision and change. I hope and feel our response to COVID so far has been a success story. The Government’s advice to schools this term in regards to reporting during this period was to simplify them and communicate with our community in the process of writing them. It was unfortunate that we had to postpone our first round of parent-teacher conversations this term, but many parents and carers took up the subsequent opportunity later in Week 11 to discuss their children’s progress while learning from home. For those who weren’t able to participate in the rescheduled conversations, I hope our extensive efforts to reach out to families meant that you were able to discuss your child’s learning with their teacher or support workers. If you feel there are things you would still like to discuss with your child’s teacher, I strongly encourage you to make contact.   The reports this semester look much simpler; they are a one-page overview with a comment pertaining most closely to English and Mathematics, while also highlighting any other areas of importance. Reports this semester do not have A-E gradings, but do reflect on effort and application to schooling. They consider the work completed so far this year, both at school and at home, and suggest areas for improvement and future focus. As always, when your reports come home, if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s learning please make contact. Reports this semester will come home with students on Thursday, July 2. If you require a second copy for your family, please let the office know. Reports in Semester 2 will return to our normal format.  A number of families have called in regards to student illness and being away from school at present. Normal processes apply; if your child is away unwell, please inform the school so that we can approve leave. If they are going to be away for an extended time owing to illness or COVID related considerations, they will require the support of a doctor. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the front office. In the name of adaptation, please feel free to join us for our fortnightly Assembly on Wednesday afternoon via Zoom at 2pm. The meeting ID is 489 780 7076 and the password is 137 141.  All members of our community are welcome.  Have a great (short) week.   Kind regards,  Kieren Corbyn (Principal)

Deadline approaching
Just a reminder. There is an exciting opportunity for children to enter a short Film Competition using their mobile device. Deadline is next Monday 15 June at midnight – and you have to include a banana in the film. There are two categories: 8-12 years & 13-19 years. The best entries will be screened via the Creative Wollongong Facebook page and at a real live Film Festival. Visit the Council website for submission guidelines and more information.
Return of resources
What a busy return to school we all have had. Could families please look for dice, cards, home readers and library books that may still be at home and return to school. Check everywhere as they are all notorious for hiding behind the lounge, under the bed or on a shelf.
