The End of Semester One  Today a number of kindergarten students visited my office. They were very eager to share their newfound knowledge of sounds. The joy in their face was undeniable. Soon after, I visited their class to read and play a game with them focused on social cues and self-control. It reminded me of how much children learn at school, often beyond the academic. As we end perhaps the most bizarre semester of schooling many of us have experienced so far, I wanted to sincerely acknowledge the tireless work of our community, students and staff in the relentless pursuit of learning at our school. Being the Principal at Lake Heights so far this year has been a pleasure. On Thursday this week you will receive your students’ Semester One reports. Please take time to read this report and have conversations with your children. Please make note of any questions you have for our staff. We are always willing and able to schedule individual chats as requested, but we also have formal parent/teacher conversations coming around again later in Term 3. They are scheduled to start September 3. Investing in your children’s education is one of the best ways to maximise outcomes of schooling. On Wednesday I will send home a letter explaining changes to this semester’s reports as a result of COVID operations. I anticipate they will return to their regular format for Semester Two. On Thursday we have scheduled something a little lighter for our students to add some colour to the end of a challenging term – Footy Colours Day. Please see the reminder later in the newsletter for details. We look forward to a touch of fun to end the term. School resumes for students after the holidays on Tuesday, July 21. Staff will return the day before for planning and professional development. Please take the time to rest, reflect and reset with your family over the mid-year break. Have a great week Kind regards, Kieren Corbyn (Principal)
