Welcome back for another great week of learning at Lake Heights Public School. This morning we have our last Kindergarten Orientation session before our little tikes head home for Christmas and pack their bags ready for big school. It has been a delight to see our Year 5 and 6 children mentor our new starters. I am not sure which student is having more fun in this week’s picture? Don’t forget this afternoon between 3 and 4 is the parent info session on Zoom for Kinder 2021 at Meeting ID: 489 780 7076 and Password: 137141. I will be drawing the 2021 uniform winners with our PandC president Chrissy Talevska and we look forward to seeing you there. Over recent weeks I have been asking the community, staff and students where they would like to see our recently completed Aboriginal Mural hanging in our school. It was a very close vote, with opinions varying widely with little pattern. The overall scaled results, however, had the community wishing to hang the mural on the admin building, with both staff and students individually desiring it to hang on the Primary block. This makes sense to me; the community wish to see the mural from the road when driving past and the staff and children wish to enjoy it each day while at school. Owing to the 2/3 favour towards the primary building, we will be hanging it there facing the play equipment. I hope it means our community can also enjoy it when they are on-site (post-Covid) and that it sparks conversation and appreciation. I also hope it attracts more of our community onto our site because we all own this school. Last week our neighbourhood shop reopened following renovations. The food was hotly critiqued in the style of Master Chef, but I am happy to report at least one student reported five stars would be given on google. Our new shop owners are finding their way through new terrain and we have seen some menu changes to enable them to tackle the short turnaround between orders and first break. Please be sure you check our e-platforms to make sure you have the most recent version. Correct money, sealed packages, and clear orders make the process much smoother. Arriving at school on time is also helpful and important for reasons beyond our lunches process. We have our dentist visiting this week and the children are thrilled. Jokes aside, it is an incredible resource and I encourage families to consider completing the online form to have the checks completed. See more info later in our newsletter. This week I will be sending home correspondence to the families of children receiving awards on Presentation Day – Tuesday, Dec 8. Initially, I was led to believe we would be prohibited from community involvement; however, this has now been somewhat relaxed. Attendance will be by invite only with strict rules. If you have a child receiving an award, all information will be sent home early this week so keep an eye out and call with any questions or queries. Lastly, I remind our community Wednesday is loud day! Please encourage your children to dress loud and bring a gold coin for fundraising. For a second gold coin, water ice blocks will also be on sale at break time. I thank Mr Fin for organising this fun initiative. I also thank Mr Fin and Mrs Nicastri for the T-Ball program they have been running with all students this term. It has been a big hit – pun intended. Don’t forget to check our calendar, it is packed over the next four weeks. Have a great week. Kind regards, Kieren Corbyn (Principal)
