Swim School starts
The Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The program is conducted over ten days. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.
Students who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and survival skills, and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water, are eligible to participate in the School Swimming Program. The program focuses on weak swimmers in Years 1 to 6.
Instruction will take place at Berkeley Swimming Pool.
The Scheme will continue daily for two weeks from Monday 3 December to Friday 14 December, departing school at 1.30 and returning a little after school by approximately 2.45pm.
Permission notes will be sent home on 29 October. They are also available for download and printing here (from 29 Oct). Places are limited to 50 students, allocated on a first in basis.
Each child should bring:
- a swimming costume
- a towel
- warm clothing on a cool day.
Students should use adequate sun protection, eg an SPF 30+ broad spectrum, water resistant sun screen reapplied regularly.
